Venini star shaped candle holder, 3-line acid stamp. Designer?
« on: February 09, 2015, 05:04:49 PM »
I was really surprised when I turned this piece around last saturday at the fleamarket, and saw the Venini mark. :D
Height 8 cm, max diameter 13 cm, quite substantial.
Simple design with applied spikes in 3 rows.
Big circular polished pontil mark, 3-line acid stamp (which dates it to 1945-66 manufacture).

I wasn't able to find anything similar in my online searches, and it is not in the Scarpa book (which was my best bet); though it is slightly similar to Scarpa's "a bugne" pieces...

Thanks for any input!
Michael

Michael, likewise it's not in the 2004 catalogue on the Venini CD - just checked in case it showed up there. I can't find anything like it anywhere else either!

Thank you so much, Anne, for searching the Venini CD! Greatly appreciated :)

A quite mysterious piece, isn't it.
If it was some sort of "frigger", I guess it wouldn't have the acid stamp.

I may have to write to Venini (again)...

Michael
