There's quite a lot of variation in some of these Chinese bowls, here's a favourite of mine.....

my favourite.
Although I've not seen Greg's before, which also appears to have cobalt in it, and is bubbly and looks a bit like a precursor to "Seaward" produced at IoWSG, and I think I might like it even more than mine. Pook.  :P

Thanks :) - I use to have quite a few of these, although had to cut back, it was in danger of becoming a problem  :)

Sue that's looking distinctly cobalt like if my eyes don't deceive me ?

It is indeed. A whole load of cobalt in the final casing. A great thick piece of glass, nearly 1".
I got it very early on, and was not expecting it to be particularly special - the photos were dreadful.
My joy, when I opened the parcel and found this, was unbounded. ;D

They are superb ... ! Is there a way of dating these, I guess the really early ones had  cobalt ?

Given the number of them around, I don't think they were confined to "Harris-period", but the current state of "knowledge" is that there was only one pot of cobalt ever melted, so all those bits containing cobalt would be contemporary with each other, and that was at some point when MH was still there.

Any further information about this "one pot of cobalt melted" has not been forthcoming, and I don't know if it has been in any way officially confirmed.

Thanks Sue,

I haven't ever seen any cobalt in any Mdina glass and have been looking now for quite a few years, there must be some truth in the one cobalt pot story  . Never, ever seen another 'zig-zag' either ....must get some counseling over that one   ???  ;)

I don't even know how much (in terms of volume) cobalt got melted.
I think John and I have a fair amount of it, between us...  ;D

I have been mentally trying to add it up, but not getting very far.   ::)
