Frosted, Speckled Vase...Or Is It???
« on: February 12, 2019, 04:11:21 PM »
Hi,

I picked this up the other day along with a couple of others with similar speckled and frosted decoration, but I am completely baffled by this one. I assumed that the wide base/rim was the bottom, but then why would the yellow decoration be concealed underneath, and why would it have a hole running all the way through? The rim/base on the narrow end is rough and uneven so is it possible that it has been cut down?

I have once again Googled everything I can think of, but drawn a complete blank.

Any ideas as to who the manufacturer could be or why this vase can't possibly hold any water? ???

Thanks in advance Penny

Hi Penny,

It's a lamp base, possibly pate de verre glass. The hole is for the flex.

Hope this helps.

Another quite similar with shade:

Perhaps Schneider or another French maker.

It will have been blown so can not be pate de verre. A much misused term.

Wow! What a nice surprise.  ;D
Thank you Greg, John, it’s so obvious that it’s a lamp looking at it now, I feel such a fool, I am so used to seeing wonderful pieces of glass butchered and mackled together as lamps that I couldn’t see what was staring me in the face! I’ve even spotted a signature (should have gone to Specsavers!) but the initial doesn’t look like any on similar Schneider vases that I have found...any ideas?

Yes your're right, it's the bit before that I can't make out, is it JT, JL, an A or a H? It certainly looks like a Schneider, but I can't find any with this mark.

Thank you Anne Tique, definately a contender, I may even be able to find a matching shade.  :)
