Topic: Identification of oval (cased?) vase

Hi all

I recently purchased an oval glass vase at my local secondhand shop and I wondered if anyone could tell me the manufacturer, age and series/model or nickname this glass may have? I bought it because I could appreciate the craftmanship in it, not for investment!

The vase is around 8 inches tall, 8 inches wide and about 4 inches deep. I have mentioned that the glass appears to be cased glass because it is yellow in colour on the inside, which shows through as a rusty orange colour (with intentional air bubbles and green veins) underneath a clear outer casing.On the underside is a pontil mark and this appears to be polished (acid polished?) as it is shiny and not a ground/ dull colour.

I have some experience of whitefriars glass but I am a beginner with other manufacturers. I am now branching out and this is where I hope you can help me. I thought this glass appeared to be new(ish) in manufacture but you may know otherwise.

Any educated ideas on the identity of this vase would be appreciated.

Hello and welcome to the glass message board.

Your vase looks very Polish. There are several manufacturers who produced colourful vases in the same style. Unfortunately, the same Polish trained the Chinese glass industry and exported not only their knowledge but also their models. So these are very hard to tell apart. Perhaps that good detailed shot of the pontil mark will tell us  more - but there is no guarantee.

Yes I did wonder if it was from the eastern side of Europe but I never for once thought it was chinese. I appreciate your comments. Please see some further photos. One of the pontil shows it's shape (but does not capture its sheen), the others just give an indication of the layers of glass that make up the vase, starting with yellow at the base (you can see the green veins within the clear if you look closely at the rim).

Thank you for comment. I am still no nearer to knowing who made it. It is a shame it is so distinctive yet despite this it must be run of the mill for this group not to draw out any real suggestions. I will keep looking.

It's not run of the mill, we just don't know who made it. There are/were way too many glassmakers for anyone on here to know more than a couple of handfuls

my guess is either Tarnowiec or Makora, Poland. Both have an absolutely massive assortment which is rotated twice a year, so success with your search.
