Heavy tankard - crystal or glass?
« on: March 06, 2007, 10:13:07 AM »
I bought a couple of heavy tankards which have a distinctive grey hue.  They thud rather than ring when pinged, so I thought glass not crystal.  I've photographed one beside a piece of 24% lead crystal :

Are they lead glass, or does the colour come from something else? Is there any particular region or maker that produces glass this colour?

Finally, the tankard is 885g, 4.25" tall, 4.75" dia base and 3.3" dia top.  Does anyone recognise this style - heavy stepped and flared base.  I wondered if it might be used on a ship.......

Thanks for looking

As far as I know these have been produced by or for Günther Lambert in the 1970s. Not sure if they have or had their own production facility or that they bought in - their main operation is interior decoration and furnishing. Heavy glas, greyish tint, a bit rustic - everything was rustic in the seventies. I have the catalogue somewhere but it is in hiding.
