I might hesitate to say it had quite the age Christine has suggested  -  but then the lady is far cleverer about glass than me.       There was a flurry of interest in wheel engraving in the late 1920's and thru the 1930's - the period when Jack Lloyd was working for example - but quite honestly age can be one of the more difficult aspects of glass to pin down.        If pushed don't think I would be able to get nearer than saying first third of the C20.

Wear might give you an indication of age - but then again Christine and I fall out often on this one too ;D

I'd be careful with the nails -  better to use the ones on the ends of your fingers I think. ;)

There are a number of small and fine shelf wear marks to the base so I know it's got some age but I don't know how much age :)
Yes sorry I meant to say fingernails were what I used, I must try to be more specific :)) I'd be mortified if anyone went near any of my glass with a metal nail ;D
From what I have seen on internet searches, the engravers that you have suggested worked in Stourbridge/Dudley area for Webb and Stuart glass if the info is right? I only live about 25 miles from Stourbridge and in fairness, theres a lot of glass from that area regularly found in charity shops and antique/collectors fairs and similar around here but not usually so ornate so the geography may be a hinter too? :) This gives me names and eras to research, thanks again Chriss :)

My age suggestion was based on the fact that, though it's pretty, it looks a little naive and yet too complex to be professionally done. There's plenty of simple slightly naive engraving around but it tends to be on "mass" produced items (mass being relative of course).   Butterflies were also quite a Victorian thing, as was ladies doing hobby work to high standards.

have to admit I also collected them until the '80's  -  that's the 1980's in case you'r wondering ;) ;)

would agree re the comments about possibility of origin being the Stourbridge area.
