Topic: Old Handblown Floral Vase Murano? ID = Kralik

I found this vase in our old family house. It's been in the house as long as I can remember, but I have no clue about the age of it. It's handblown with a pontil mark at the bottom.
I have not found any signatures underneath. It's very large and quite heavy.

Would be so thankful for any clues about this vase that I love so much.

Lovely vase, it was made by Kralik in the 1920s or 30s in Czechoslovakia. This pattern is called Grand Marquetry by collectors: http://www.kralik-glass.com/kralikmarquetryarray.html

Difficult to get an idea of value after looking around.

We don't generally discuss values here, they are too subjective and there are so many factors that go into a given price.

However, looking at completed listings on ebay, there is a Marquetry vase that sold recently for around 280 US dollars. That was a very large vase and so commanded a high price, generally smaller vases sell for less. Your vase has 'flowers' (hence the Grand bit of the Marquetry name) which is a nice feature that would help to make it desirable.

For future reference how tall is your vase please?

I thought I recognised some bambus-y bits, but the pansies are new to me, I love it.
Well done on knowing this, John. I'd think this is rather an unusual piece?

There are similarities with Bambus so it may also be worth searching with that name...

As to relative rarity I don't know Sue, I have only ever had one Bambus purchase, which was a pair of vases. I suspect that the Grand Marquetry variation may be harder to find but whether that is because fewer were sold or those that are about are more sought after, I don't know.

Backtracking a bit it seems that some sellers are replacing the Bambus name with Marquetry, apologies for any confusion!

I noticed that also.
I've been doing a bit of digging after you identified the vase. So much interesting glass, but it seems rare to find at auctions.
The vase is 16'' tall, so a rather large piece, it would seem.

Does this wonderful Grand Marquetry vase contain uranium?
