Hand blown blue bubble bowl new or old?
« on: August 26, 2015, 05:24:59 PM »
Any thought's on this one?, i thought it might be Walsh Pompeian as there is a lot of wear around the base rim, but this colour i have also had and seen with a made in Egypt label on but only on small pots and a wine glass.

A rough pontil and nice lead sounding ring when tapped for a thick piece of glass.

8 1/2 inches across the rim, 5 inches in height and 4 1/2 inches across the base.

regards Chris.

not Walsh 'Pompeian' I don't think Chris  -  the base finish looks wrong and I'm sure this isn't Walsh's shade of blue.              Any vague chance it might it be by Arculus and made for Hill Ouston - a product from the late 1920's and '30's ??   There are pix in C.H. C20 Glass volume 1.
Of course, you could well be correct and it may well be Egyptian ;D

Walsh only has a sharp pontil mark on a domed foot. The blue also looks too dark for Pompeian

Texture looks right Paul page 100, but the colour is a bit brighter.

have to say that I've never owned any Arculus  -  I'm only going by the book.              Always possible Keith might have a piece. :)

I think Ivo 's suggestion is a possible - I have some lovely Egyptian plates in a similar vein.

I think there are some threads on here that might show a link to the suppliers?
I think I put my plates on the board somewhere.
