Topic: Bottle ID

Hi folks,

I got a bit excited in a charity shop at the weekend and mistook this for a piece of Borske Sklo. It took about 3 seconds on google when I got home to realise I was incorrect.

Anyway, since I bought the damn thing I thought I may as well try and find out what it is / what it's for. Any ideas?

3 foot or 3 inches tall? does it have a polished pontil mark, does it have mold seams? Does it have a cut and ground rim or a firepolished rim?
Can we have a photograph of the base please?  How much does it weigh?

All these answers are information that can help towards identifying a piece of glass

Also, just another thought.  Is it actually green glass, or is it coloured on the inside only?
I had a similar one which I used 'magic balls' to clean with, and they removed the colour inside   I think mine was made in the Far East and was modern.

If it is sprayed you can tell by looking through the neck against the light. If the bottom has no colour, the outside has been sprayed. In this case I think not - green is not a logical spray colour. Spray colours are always Chinese. Spray colours are only used on the outside.
I suspect this is a decorative bottle from Italy. It has to be decorative because it has no content or conformity marks. Timewise you may be looking at the 70s.

looking more closely at the base pic it appears to have been blown in a bottle factory as the base has those repetitive knobbly bits all the way around it.
(PLease could you make your pictures 400 x 600 pixels?  that way they can blow up so the detail can be seen   )

Perhaps a 'flask' filled with bubble bath or some liqueuer or something and then sealed? 

Whatever it is I think it was mold made in a bottle factory?

Had a look last night and I think you might be right about the colour being 'painted on'... when I held it up to the light and looked at the base it was completely clear. It also looks like the colour has ran a bit (see attached pic).

It's around 7 inches tall, and the base is 3 inches wide. I don't have anything to weigh it with, but it feels pretty light. There is also a 'join' down the middle.

All in all, I'd say it's not looking like a good buy

If you prefer a clear one, soak it in vinegar overnight or use an "eco -friendly" cleaner, which comes down to the same thing.
