Aventurine spokes and star base? Strathearn? Perthshire?
« on: October 29, 2015, 04:00:52 PM »
I associate star bases with Perthshire, but this doesn't look crisp enough? Also, did Perthshire ever use aventurine like there is in the spokes on this 12-spoke millefiori? Thanks for any help.

Thank you very much!

Being "not-so-crisp" is ok for early (e.g. 1969 - 1971) Perthshire Paperweights items. A star-cut base was used from 1969 to 1971 for (at least) the PP5 / PP6 designs.

I have not studied Perthshire Paperweights pieces very much and I have no real knowledge of their use of aventurine. But I know of no info that says they did not use it spokes in that way.

Your weight, with its 1-1-1 pattern between the spokes does not seem to fit the details for PP5 / PP6 in the "Complete Guide ..." book (1st book). Maybe it is simply a variation that was was not illustrated?

Thanks Kevin, I've read snippets that Monart/Vasart used aventurine? did they finish with a star base though?

it's very frustrating!
Thank you very much!

Looking again at the pic of the PP5 in "Complete Guide to..." although no mention of aventurine, it would seem to fit, the first picture shows much softer canes than the later ones, and the PP5 is on an amber base like this one. So I think, unless anyone thinks to the contrary, this must be the right attribution.
Thank you very much!
