I *think* it means a reproduction made by VEB Sachsenglas between 1948-1965, and that the quality was much worse. ???? Just fooling around before the experts get here.

thanks so much for that link Cathy!  :) That is just what i was looking for.!

Hopefully Pamela will be along to do some full translating  :wink:  but in the meantime at least i can see that it is not an original Walther, and also that is was not made by Sarsaparilla Deco Designs,(SDD) as the person had told me

(and yes, on close examination, the workmanship and glass quality in the repro is nowhere near that of the genuine Walther!)

Cheri, it is sad that you do not hold the orignal in hand to see the difference between a possible fake and an original. I come back to this further at the bottom.

what bothers me more is the quality of glass...

I think I do not have to translate much of SG's article here, just let me point out, what is also written in his Korrespondenz:

VEB Sachsenglas is the follower of Walther after war - same place, same people, same moulds

GDR would not have given order to produce their moulds elsewhere, it was GDR who needed the foreign exchange for own production, why produce in France then?

The glasswork in France named producing the icebear is unknown to us

And now I return to the top: if you had both vases in front of you, you perhaps and most certainly could judge whether the shiny one is fake.

there are differences in the proportions in a 'my'-scale and I guess this one was made after a (help please!  :oops: ) 'redone' mould

The thread LENI was so kind to add was more on the surfaces, whether pink glass or coated or what else - IVO did a great job in translating what Mr. Mauerhoff wrote on that - thank you again for that!

I got the email in from someone who had seen it in my eBay listing. I do not know them. They said it was SDD (Sarsaparillo Deco Designs) who I am always careful to avoid, but usually their pieces have SDD impressed on them.

 
I bought this from someone in Canada, and, apart from shipping, did not pay what I normally would for a Walther. Guess that should have been a clue :roll: When it arrived, I said to my husband that it looks so different from the other Walther Windsor that we thought maybe it was a "made for export" or  less expensive version.
