Uranium Enamelled glass Hyacinth / Bulb Vase
« on: February 10, 2016, 04:33:30 PM »
A uranium enamelled glass handled vase looks like hyacinth / bulb vase to me with some gold gilding . Bought only for research as clearly missing one handle.
Polished pontil .
More than  happy for the pictures to be used if they are of use to anyone.
Height 4.5" or 11.5cm , weight 375gm

Is there evidence of the missing handle? - as in the enamel missing from where it was joined to the body?
I cannot see any missing enamel, but the pics don't really show the area where it should be seen.
thanks!
Very pretty thing, what diameter is the central hole? That might help decide whether it is a hyacinth vase or not.

Hi Sue

Very clear evidence of the missing handle with a chunk out of the vase of lower part of handle and excess of glass for top part.
Diameter of central hole 2.75" down to 1.5" at the neck.

It willl still display well - your pics show that clearly.
Lustrousstone will know from the diameter whether it is right or not for a hyacinth and I'm sure she'll comment when she can.
Normally, we just try to see how many fingers we can fit in the hole. It gives a good enough approximation. But we both have small hands. :-[

Roy, in my eyes this is not a hyacinth vase.
Hyacinth vases do not have handles. If a vase has handles I stay well clear of it as in my eyes it is a posy vase or something. I have looked at many many bulb magazines and also at glass factory catalogues, old and new, but never did they offer a bulb vase with handles.

Can you photograph it against a plain white background please?
Is it iridescent?

And can we see a clear photograph of the base and polished pontil mark please, and also a clear close up one of the enamelling showing the colours of the enamel please?

Thanks
m

Thank you Patricia for you reply .

I did have a look for any other handled bulb vases but had no luck. As its damaged I am going to try and use it for a type of bulb as it should work.

m some pictures of the vase which I still had to use flash as not home in daylight .
