MDG Paperweights were made in Malta by the Maltese.....
« on: February 15, 2016, 02:11:56 PM »
Hi,

It has often been thought by some that these paperweights were imported into Malta having been made originally in China.

Alfred Summat who worked at MDG from the beginning and was trained by the Chinese has confirmed to me that he made the canes that were sliced up and used to make them.  The Chinese teachers left the factory after the Maltese were trained and production continued at MDG and later at CGL (Craft Glass Ltd.)

The weight on the left has an original label CGL and the one on the right has base flatting similar to the labeled one.

I hope this has been of help to collectors interested in MDG and Chinese paperweights.
