V & A glass display 4th floor
« on: April 13, 2016, 01:52:27 PM »
Just a big shout out for the V & A and their glass display.

I last went two years ago and it was all in flux as they were moving stuff around.
Went up yesterday and spent three wonderful hours photographing the A..Ma... zing glass display :)

It looks truly fabulous - so much really beautiful glass and such a breadth to the collection.

I was looking for a couple of specific pieces and inadvertently managed to find the one that I think is the final piece in the jigsaw confirming one of my items as Venetian 17th century not Bohemian, so I am delighted.

Also photographed a couple of Russian and Scandinavian goblets whilst there and had a very good look at all the engraved glass, so a fantastic day.

The contemporary display is fabulous.
Well worth a visit and devoting a whole afternoon to it.

 :)
I may have to wait until the new V&A (concrete seagull-nesting-site) is built here and the glass comes for a visit.  ::)
Cheers, Sue M. (she/her)

glad you enjoyed it m........     I've not been for a few months, so will make another visit to see the what changes they've made.

In may 2012 I spoke to Reino Liefkes with a request that images of their glass might be shown on the GMB.          Subject to certain conditions they very kindly agreed, and I have an email from Roxanne Peters in which she comments.............

""All images downloaded from Search the Collections should be credited as follows:    © Victoria and Albert Museum, London.
""For any images you have taken yourself, we would ask that you adhere to the terms and conditions of Search the Collections and
acknowledge the museum as follows: 'Courtesy of the Victoria and Albert Museum, London""

Unlike TNA it's not a requirement of the V.& A. conditions that the individual's name is shown. :)

Unfortunately, don't think I used this facility more than a couple of times since ....................    anyway, this is just by way of saying that if you do want to show some of the pix from your recent visit, we'd like to see them.              Of course you will need to watermark them as suggested above, and a reliable free download is already on the Board  ....  type in watermarking and you should find the zippyhelp.com app that Bernard provided some two or three years back  -  if I can use then it's got to be simple.

Thank you Paul

I was mainly photographing displays for my future reference though as it was infuriating last time knowing I'd seen something and it not being on the online display.
Also I want to check certain item numbers  which I was able to search for at the museum on their online 'search the glass collection' machine, but having got back I now can't work out how to search for item numbers on the website.  Very irritating.

But if I do post somethign I will work out how to watermark.
