Eirian Studio Glass vase, Wales, label and signature
« on: April 10, 2016, 08:56:53 PM »
Came across this recently. A nice solid and heavy little posy vase. Made in Hay-on-Wye, just inside the Welsh border. This one is labelled and signed Eirian '97, so presumably made in 1997.

I have a pretty golden glass one David ... I bought it at the glass works having spent a very pleasant hour or so watching the artist at work in his studio. No date on mine... the squiggle on the label indicates a second,  but this can just mean the colour is discontinued not necessarily a fault in the glass.
They also make birds and animals.
Well worth a visit if you are in Hay on Wye.  :)

I like that the squiggle is on both the glass and the label!

 :)
I've recently seen a "vase" almost identical to David's, but with a big round hole cut into it, to make it into a salt cellar for the kitchen.
With a name like Eirian, I had assumed it was from Eire rather than Wales. :-[

I thought that the squiggle was a logo. Ho hum.

'Eirian' is a Welsh personal name (masculine or feminine) meaning bright, beautiful or splendid.

Thanks, Fred. A very appropriate meaning too.  :)
I can very happily apply it to the glass, to Wales, or to Eire too.

Here is another more modern one I found today at a car boot, the signature reads Eirian Hay- on- Wye  Aqua Rope.

8 inches in height and 6 inches in width.

A lovely vase and so beautifully signed, even has the pattern name as well!! ... if only all glass artists would sign their work so clearly. :)
