Dating labels according to ebay?!
« on: May 06, 2016, 09:49:22 AM »
ebay has a page which attributes dates to various labels for Murano producers.

http://ebay.design-and-arts.com/labels.php?lang=eng

When were transparent labels introduced?

I'm not at all confident that the dates indicated are accurate so maybe some GMBers could give it a look and tell me whether the dates seem to agree with their experience.
Specifically: Did Barbini really use these transparent labels in the 1970's? Doesn't seem likely to me! The designs they are used on include items which are surely late 80's at the earliest!
At some point they added a registered (R) to their logo which I presume came even later?

Similarly the transparent Seguso label further down the page. Does anybody know whether this was really in use prior to 1990?

I've had Barbini lamps and vases that date from at least the mid-late 1970s with the plastic label, and the transparent SVdA on pieces also signed Albarelli, which puts them somewhere between 1976-1992, if I recall correctly.

Transparent labels weren't entirely novel during these periods - I think Riihimäki, and certainly Iittala, were using them in the 1960s.

I bought a small glass pot produced in Murano in the mid-1970s which had a transparent plastic label on it.

Dartington used plastic labels from 1968 - Linda and Stuart Smithson in Dartington Glass the First Twenty Years. Obviously not Murano but they were available.

It might be useful to move this to Glass rather than leave it in Murano, as it will help a wider audience.
