Sometimes you just need the right angle to show up any wear Paul, noticed it a few times especially with the darker colours (they can also appear mirror like in photos).

I think I'm being accused of being short-sighted Ben ;)  -  please tell us the extent or otherwise of the wear on your glass.

Here's a few more pictures of the base, I can take some more if anyone needs them.
There is some wear but not a great deal, its so hard to say as you never know what life a piece of glass has had.
Ben

Christine's and John's comments are, of course, very valid - and my knowledge of coloured glass is somewhat limited, but in view of the lack of extent of wear that I'd expect to see, for this age, I will remain a tad sceptical of this 'Georgian' piece :)     Attractive piece though Ben, and thanks for posting.
Purple/amethyst remains one of the most desirable colours of the early/mid C19 - especially in the form of drinking glasses and finger bowls etc.

Particularly on a very rounded base, the actual part of the glass which is in true contact with any surface can be absolutely miniscule and so invisible to the eye.

The only way to find it, is to run your fingernail around the area where contact would be and see if you can feel any wear. :)
Also, things that didn't get moved a lot don't end up with base wear.
But I can see plenty of base wear on that enlarged base pic!

Ben's vase is purple, there is no brown in it, the one you show, Paul, is more aubergine - even without something to compare it to, there is still a good hint of brown to it.

no answer to that ;)

I think it's possibly the colour that is giving just a little concern  -  maybe Ben's vase is a little too violet ??
