Firstly, a recap on Paul's reply #5 - the design representation for RD 362736 of 11 March 1881 - Parcel 2, sugar basin (described as 'upright churn shape' by Thompson):
looking back through the pattern numbers of sugars and creamers on page 51 of Sowerby pattern book XI (1885), this is a dead ringer for Sowerby pattern 1559 sugar (shown below with its matching creamer).

As to the 'churn' shape, it's actually a representation of coopered plunger-type wooden butter churn, wider at the base than the top. In the mid-1970s, while attempting to live 'the good life' on a smallholding in west Wales, I actually used to make butter in something very similar (and jolly hard work it was too!).

I'm not sure where that now leaves the RD number corresponding to Roy's pattern 1569 in the opening posts of this thread.

we seem to have blown this one, at least as far as relating Roy's original shape to a National Archive Registration  -  it obviously isn't Rd. 362736 (factory pattern 1559) with which we first tried to match it.

So  -  it's back to the drawing board.........   I'll go through all of the National Archive Sowerby designs again and look for factory pattern 1569, but not tonight :)

On now, in several posts, to the last batch of Sowerby design representations of 11 March 1881 - Parcel 2 kindly supplied by Paul:

RD 362737 corresponds to pattern 1572 salt (p41, pattern book XI, 1885)

RD 362738 corresponds to pattern 1632 mustard (p36, pattern book XI, 1885)

RD 362739 corresponds to pattern 1561 sugar (shown with a matching creamer on page 51, pattern book XI, 1885).

I also attach a photo (copyright Roy Jones)  of an actual 1560 creamer marked with the correct lozenge.

RD 362740 corresponds to pattern 1574 round salt (p41, pattern book XI, 1885) and to oval salt 1574 1/2 (p42, pattern book XI, 1885).

RD 362741 corresponds to pattern 1571 candlestick (p13, pattern book XI, 1885)

RD 362742 corresponds to dish pattern no 1564 (p27, pattern book XI, 1885)

RD 3627743 could possibly correspond to either an oval or round butter pattern 1670 (shown with an underplate on p8, pattern book XI, 1885) or perhaps a rectangular butter pattern 5005 (at least, I think that's what the number is - p10, pattern book 11, 1885). The handles seem to match the design representation, but it's not obvious (to me anyway) exactly what shape it represents.

having spent some hours at Kew today, regret to say that I'm not a great deal wiser as to a positive id for a Reg. No. for the hooped pail shaped piece at the beginning of this thread.
I'm wondering if the design of this item consists of elements from more than one Registration  -  I shall have to re-visit and concentrate on this item, and the two handled piece of similar date, which is also proving difficult.

Thank you anyway, Paul.

Unfortunately, not all problems are easily solved.

Wow Paul and Fred and Roy, I am so impressed by the knowledge and the pics shown in this thread. Puts my little collection of Queen's Ivory right in the shade. Thank you so much for sharing.
