Please help me identify this vase !
« on: October 18, 2016, 11:01:56 AM »
Please can anyone help identify this glass vase ? I don't know too much about it apart from a pair of these were bought by my wife's grandmother I think in the early 1950s. I believe they cost around £5000 for the pair (so i was told) at the time so were extremely expensive. My sister in law has the other vase. My wife's  grandparents would have lived in the west end of London at the time of purchase. There are no names of the maker on the vase.
We now use the glass for putting flowers in but my curiosity has got the better of me and I'm thinking that the vase may be valuable and in need of insuring. Also with 2 young boys kicking and throwing balls around the house it may need to be kept somewhere more safe !
Many thanks in advance.

More pictures would help  ;D
One of the base, up close, rim and interior would be ideal  :)

I've looked through some of the books with reference to 50s/60s cut glass, but wasn't aware of seeing this pattern.            This style of covering the surface entirely was a fashion in the 60s, and which possibly came originally from Scandinavia, so the suggestion of circa mid C20 is likely to be correct for date, irrespective of origin or value.                Assume you've looked under the base for a backstamp  -  a smallish acid created mark or name to indicate the maker - sometimes they can be very difficult to see.
If nothing is forthcoming in the way of attribution, and the suggested value is still thought to be reliable, then put the pair into a quality auction - with a reserve - and see what happens.

I have taken some photo's late last night. Apologies as the light was not great. I should be able to get some better photo's at the w/e. I have not seen any markings at all but will have a closer inspection at the w/e.
