Rare Royal Brierley Hyacinth vase.
« on: November 15, 2016, 08:24:18 PM »
Thanks to Patricia ( and David ) it seems I have a rare piece of RB Studio, these were made in only two colours, 'midnight black' and 'dawn white' only 100 of each colour was made and they were only available through Asprey's in London for  £28.75, so now I need one in 'midnight black' unless Patricia sees it first !  :o ;D ;D

Hi Keith  -  in my ignorance it occurs to me to say that the 'cup' appears very shallow and unlike the top part of others that do qualify as hyacinth vases.          Do you think it might be precarious for any bulb to sit atop that dish?? ;D              By the way, how tall is this one?

Hello Paul, that's what I thought but Patricia has all the info' regarding these pieces and they, I'm presuming, may be more for show than practical use as you said they are very shallow but who am I to argue with our resident hyacinth vase expert  ;D ;D sure she won't mind me saying that  ;D

If Patricia says it's a hyacinth vase, it's a hyacinth vase.
End of story.  :)

The story of the Royal Brierley Hyacinth Vase:

In 1989 Asprey's of London ran a Christmas Exhibition of hyacinth vases where some 150 went on show and were being sold at the same time. By Christmas Eve only 8 vases remained. See my book page 82.
To commemorate the occasion, Asprey commissioned an exclusive design for a hyacinth vase from Royal Brierley made after one of the first designs of Stevens & Williams. The vase is well known, the cup is indeed the idea of a I-have-never-put-a-bulb-on-a-vase-before glassblower. They were made in two colours, only 100 of each.
I was lucky enough to buy the so-called midnight black one on ebay. Nobody went for it, nobody realised it was a hyacinth vase, nobody knew there were only 100 around.
Ever since I have been looking for the so-called dawn white one, never saw it till last Sunday on the Glass Fair. So a deal was made.
From a third party I will finally get my rare dawn-white hyacinth vase.
David is kind enough to post pictures of my vase (book page166). Christmas came early this year!
