Topic: Rainbow Cut Glass Epergne Trumpets Help with ID, please.

Hi all,
I scoured the board and can come up with lots of S&W rainbow glass, but I cant find anything like it on here.

I have two of these, what I believe may be small epergne trumpets.
The are definitely cut (well incredibly sharp to the touch) and they measure 135mm in length, with a top diameter of 45mm.
The colours are pink, blue & yellow, along with the clear.
All help welcomed.

unusual Della  -  but regret I've not the faintest clue as to origin or date, sorry.

Does the colour extend the full thickness of the glass  -  in other words does it appear more or less equally on both inside and outside?    I say this as it occurs to me that if the colours are on the surface only then might they be created by the same method as carnival glass iridescence  -  salts.         Of course if the colour extends the full thickness then no doubt caused by mixing two batches.

I've tried blowing up your pix but not entirely convinced the design is cut  -  can  you see remains of grinding or polishing in the mitres.

Is that metal of some sort on the pointy end, or do I need Specsavers again                A shame you don't have the stand.

Hi Paul,
I've got it in hand and I'm finding it really hard to tell if it is in the glass, or on it, but I'd say in it as there are traces of colour inside the stopper bottom bit.
The bottom of the trumpet is not metal, it is just ground glass, like you'd find on the end of a decanter stopper. That rises up into a hexagonal cut portion and then up to the diamond point top funnel bit, thingy.
It may well be pressed, I am so outside my comfort zone, but it is so sharp to the touch that I would say cut.
I will try and get some better photos in natural daylight tomorrow.
Think I should hold off on unpacking anymore boxes, I've managed to ID lots of things by myself today, but found these, 3 with the same function, but totally different, and some incredibly chunky textured tumblers

The colour is definitely in the glass as it is in the chip, shown, and you can also see that it is cut from the marks.

I think you were right first time Della  -  I can now see what appear to be the remains of grinding marks within the mitres - so cut glass it is.
