Topic: Amethyst vase?

This is a piece I came across at a friends house and at first glance I thought it was mid century,but looking at the base and asking a few questions about it I now think it's older.It came with a house purchased in 1947 and is about 16"ht!,it has a large polished Pontil,a lot of wear to the base and a lovely deep ring,I think it's a very large vase but you would have to buy a lot of very long stemmed flowers for it.I wonder if it was ordered as a one off?,anyway your thoughts are most welcome,thanks.
