Little Faceted Vibrant red diamond shape vase
« on: March 10, 2017, 07:09:00 PM »
Hi GMB, I have a small 4" vase in a diamond shape it has deep cutting and lots of polishing to the corners I maybe wrong but it feels as though it could be a good item, The base has a small neat polished pontil scar and lots of wear. Thinking it might be as old as the early 1900s by a good bohemian or French maker.
Any views or leads would be greatly appreciated I feel sure ive seen this vase either here or in a book. Thank you for looking.

Nice item. Moser would be a strong first thought.

I would check the base for a very faint mark.

Alexandrite glass may also be worth considering as moser were a big exponent of this type of glass.

Hi Greg Ive managed to borrow a u.v. light from a mate and the outside of the vase where its is more clear glows a soft green similar to uranium glass but not half as vivid im guessing it maybe alexandrite then? Ive looked hard for a moser acid mark but think if it had of had one it might have worn away due to wear and tear.

I wouldn't worry especially about the absence of a mark.

A UV light is not needed to determine if it's Alexandrite glass. Alexandrite will be a pale ice blue under fluorescent lighting and a pink/purple in daylight.

I wouldn't say the colour is unusual, if anything it seems to scream Moser. It's is also not Uranium or really Ruby so you may want to amend your current listing a little.

I would also add ZBS to the mix. They used that colour

I am pretty sure that is a Moser Intaglio vase:
There is a box version here

Maybe 1901 ish - but early 1900s I think
