Opaline Glass Vase + Floral Decoration + Handpainted
« on: May 03, 2017, 03:27:54 PM »
Hi everybody,
here I am again, with another vase I bought.

It's kind of bigger than other vase I have bought before.

Beautifully decorated with enamel floral decorations.
All handpainted. Cartouches on both sides.

No pontilmark.

I thinnk it's either French or Bohemian.
Maybe 1850?

Height:      38 cm/ 14,95 inch.
Diameter:  14 cm/   5,5   inch.

I hope somebody can tell me more about this piece.

Thank you very much in advance!
R. Antonis

Hi Antonizz.

I stumbled across this post whilst researching a vase of my own. Not identical, and far smaller, at just 5.5" high, but similar enough enamel decoration to be of interest, I hope.

So far, I'm of the same opinion as you, i.e. French or Bohemian, mid to late 19thC perhaps?

I can't offer any more I'm afraid, but maybe a bump will generate a bit of interest.

Steve

From previous posts, the gilding on Bohemian glass often rubbed off easily leaving a yellowy/orange base enamel or, I think, purple like Antonizz's. I can't tell if yours is the same Steve. Difficult to pin down a maker, but the brown rim hints at Harrach.

Yes, there certainly looks to be a yellow base colour underneath the enamel.

The top looks black to me, rather than brown, (a bit like tarnished silver colour), and has very tiny remnants of what look like gilding, that has presumably rubbed off.
