Wheel cut and moulded glass thought's please.
« on: November 04, 2017, 05:30:44 PM »
I see a lot of pressed glass with added cuts mainly Polish and Czech, i found these three recently i thought all cut at first but the big thick mitre cuts are just too precise to be done by hand especially the circle in the middle of the plate it's a perfect circle, all the other detail has been wheel cut,  I picked these three up in the same pattern although there was a lot more.

The boat shaped bowl and box look 1930's to me maybe and you can just see one mould line on the tip of the bowl.

Probably a long shot but it looks much better quality than any pressed and cut glass i have seen so far with micro wheel cutting that must of been done under a magnifying glass.

The plate measures 11 inches in diameter.

Any thought's welcome regards Chris.

Hi - Just a quick thought - that in the USA there was around 1900.. a brand name/  combination process called nu-cut or press-cut (?). Quite a lot of less expensive 'cut glass' was actually  pressed and selective cutting was  added. Just saying that BOTH techniques might be present on this piece, and that is was common enough for me to learn that it was done.

Thanks for that It's the best mix of both I have seen it's almost flawless.

The cigarette box cutting must have taken hours , there are roughly a thousand cuts on the box maybe more.
