So it had expired in 1937 and was owned by Holophane (hardly surprising).

I would also like to point out that US companies were probably prohibited from selling into the UK, while there was a UK distributor or Holophane was still making it (they stopped in 1940, I believe).

So I agree that after c.1950 (unless we can find a British manufacturer) the glass in the UK would have indeed come from the US.

Quite right. But I wonder then why Holophane (or Chance) didn't register the name in the UK any earlier?

Michael and i spent a good while together, trying to work out if the mark stood proud of the glass or went into it. He couldn't even find the mark at first, but we concluded it stands proud and is therefore moulded.

It's rather a battered old thing, but is still a good big solid lump of opalescent glass and its being battered means I can use it without worrying. It also meant I could afford it.

Very nice - I do like the variations that opalescent glass can give.

It's a particularly good shape to show off the opalescent properties.
I think a very battered vase would not be such a good thing.
But this sits nicely on my coffee table, doing different firey things and cheering me up.
