'Labyrinth' - Philip Chaplain for Caithness
« on: June 20, 2014, 06:50:43 PM »
I think we've had just the one 'Labyrinth' posting previously on the Board, so thought I'd add another, which is a different shape from JAK's, and such a nice change to find a piece of Caithness that is different from the zillions of run of the mill touristy pieces that I see in charity shops every week.

Here is the earlier piece..........   http://www.glassmessages.com/index.php/topic,42719.msg237690.html#msg237690  ...... and big thanks to Sue for explaining how the effect is produced, although I'd prefer to stick to 'cloisonne' and keep 'primavera' for Botichelli. :)

This one is about 9.5" (240 m/m) tall, and quite heavy.

There is a whole load of really lovely "studio style" Caithness glass out there... somewhere. Much of it Limited Edition stuff.
Not easy to find and not easy to find out about. >:(

I like that, Paul. I particularly like the tall foot, it sets it off so well. :)
Cheers, Sue M. (she/her)

thanks Sue  -  I don't know if their earlier catalogues are available for viewing somewhere  -  but I agree that these studio pieces seem as rare as hen's teeth - it's just the everyday very mundane pieces that are so common.
Don't think this one was a limited edition, but could be wrong. :)

Can we correct this to Philip Chaplain, as he has commented on a piece of a Facebook (PS he wants to know who Peter Chaplain is (LOL)

;D apologies to Philip Peter Chaplain  -  though in my defence I have to say nuffin to do wiv me gel - it's all the fault of some
geyser called Mark Hill  -  see page 122 - 'Caithness Glass -Loch, Heather & Peat' -  who calls this artist Philip. :)

Would have been nice had Peter come straight to the best glass resource forum on the web. ;)

All occurrences of "Peter" in headings in this thread now changed to "Philip".
