Beware glass on windowsills

A serious house fire in Sussex, England, was caused by a glass trinket on a windowsill says fire brigade. The sun's rays focused through the glass to cause a fire on Saturday. The owner of the house, who did not wish to be named, said: "Within minutes the house was full of smoke with glass exploding."  She said her whole house was fire and smoke damaged.

I had this problem too.
Although some paperweights have a warning sticker on them saying do not display in direct sunlight,  they don't explain it is because of fire risk.  Many people think it is just because the colours will fade!

It can happen with curtains as well.  So take care all glass lovers!
These are my window sills!  :'(

I had the same marks on a window sill in my son’s bedroom a few years back. I thought that he had been playing with matches until I took a paperweight outside in the sun to photograph it, within seconds the cardboard background was smoking and on fire!

Tigerchips:
I used to work in a charity shop and the window shelf would always get those burn marks from paperweights. I told the manageress right away it's the paperweights doing that.
