Stripey tumbler id pls, Scandi?
« on: September 04, 2018, 06:41:39 PM »
Hi, some friends of mine have asked me to try and id these tumblers. They are about 5" tall with cut vertical lines (but not polished) and raised nipples. The glass is fine and the base has a deepish moulded type of concave depression. They had belonged to her parents and think they come from the 1960s or 70s? any ideas, Tia, Wolfie

Several Nordic designers used the motif of vertical incised lines, left unpolished, from the 1950s onwards.  Bengt Orup at Johansfors springs to mind here, and I've seen several examples of his designs that use this method.

Orup was a talented abstract painter and draughtsman before he became a glass designer, and his abstract artwork focused on combinations of lines and circles. I should say that I haven't seen any glass of his which uses these elements combined, but he's worth consideration I think.
