Alabaster Glass / Opaline - Biedermeier Tazza/Compote -Barfatan
« on: September 12, 2018, 08:59:53 PM »
Hi everybody,

I would like some help with identifying this next piece;
It's a intriging white/pink compote.

More information:
*Alabaster Glass
* Opaline
* I believe this is called barfatan.
* Überfang / Overlay / Cameo Glass.
* Handpainted Enamel;  Floral and figures.
* Accolade / Curly Bracket - shaped top rim.
* Round cartouches and other cut figures/shapes.
* Brass stem.
* Has a crack in the glass, right under the brass stem.

I have came across an alabaster glass item, with the same kind of style,
which was said to be manufactured by Josephinenhütte.

I wonder if somebody here could tell me more about this.

Thank you very much in advance!

Since you seem to like this kind of glass I can recommend some books to purchase:

1) Das Bohmische Glas Band III

(If you become interested in earlier Biedermeier glass then I would recommend also purchasing Band II )

2) Harrach - From Neuwelt to the Whole World

3) Farbenglas I (Walthraud Neuwirth)

4) Farbenglas II  (Walthraud Neuwirth)

Thank you very much!

In the future I will definately invest more in books etc.
I did buy 2 opaline books, written in French.
With the ambition to translate them, but that mission was cancelled
after 2 weeks and only 6 pages further :p

But we'll see ;)
