We are pleased pleased to announce the launch of the website at https://www.etling.org/ today.

We are grateful to the Glass Society for their sponsorship and to David Ross (https://www.davidrossdigital.com/) for his dedication to the project over the last ten months. The site displays beautifully on mobile platforms and laptops. It is bilingual, in English and French. The old site at https://projetetling.wikidot.com/ will remain functional for the rest of this year, but won't be updated.

As expected for such a large site there are a few minor issues to deal with, but we hope the new website will become a hub for studies on Etling glass. Some testing is required of features that had to wait until the launch, such as the discussion forum. Please wait until the forum has its first post from myself just to make sure all is working as intended.

In due course we welcome any contributions to the new site via the discussion forum or contact form. Images of Etling glass can be submitted via the museum email address.

Thank you for the many comments of support for this project.

Anton

It has been a year since the last update on the Etling Project. There is much new to tell.

Firstly, we have decided to maintain the project website hosted by WikiDot at least into 2026. A great deal has been added there in the first half of 2025. The website at www.etling.org is lagging behind the project site, but it will eventually be the permanent home for Etling glass enthusiasts.

Catalogue

https://projetetling.wikidot.com/cataloguenumbered - 173 designs listed
https://projetetling.wikidot.com/catalogueunnumbered - 47 designs listed

All 220 designs are illustrated by pictures. However, a few need improvement. If anyone can help with better pictures we would be most grateful.

Concerning the 47 designs with no known Choisy le Roi catalogue number, if anyone can put a number to any of these we would be grateful also. We know that some on this list have a catalogue number, but it was unreadable on the piece.

Of course, if anyone has an Etling piece that is not in the catalogue we would be most interested. Please contact us via this forum or by email to Isle of Wight Glass Museum.

Etling biography

Our focus has now shifted from cataloguing glass to the biography of Edmond Etling. We have made good progress. For example, we have his birth, marriage and death records. These have been added to the project documentation page at https://projetetling.wikidot.com/documentation. The two contributed brief histories for Edmond Etling at https://projetetling.wikidot.com/main:about will need modification. There are several inaccuracies. It is hoped that these corrections can be completed by the end of 2025.
