Topic: Nazeing tumbler cloudy glass vase or other?

Hi, wondering whether this is one of Nazeing’s early versions  - there seems to have been quite a few
makers making essentially the same sort of thing at the time ( 1930s ? )

Heavily cased on the outside, thin casing on the inside ( you can feel the decoration)

Broken pontil mark, heavy base wear.

The green looks as if it’s greyish in places - not surface dirt - I’ve given it a good wash!

Ht 13cm - 5”
Wt 535 gm

Any thoughts appreciated, many thanks for looking

Very nice item. If the middle of the base rises into the vase maybe Hartley Wood might be a consideration.

Forget that, have a look at nazeing glass vases on google images I am sure yours is on there.

Hi Tim,
When I first saw it I thought it might be Hartley Wood  - although the base is concave it’s not as
pronounced as the HW ones and also it’s not wonky enough!
I’m also pretty sure it’s Nazeing but I wouldn’t mind finding out how old it is

Charles Hajdamach book 20th century british glass, it says that  in the thirties Nazeing had a small catalogue of seven pages.
 After the second world war art glass production was recorded in a set of working drawings.
Have you seen the black and white photos from the 1930s?
They did have a bubbly range from this time but it notes that the bubbles can be felt on the inside.

Hi,
Unfortunately I haven’t got H’s book, but you can certainly feel the random bubbles on its inside
surface.
Hopefully you’ll be able to see the seeds/bubbles in the glass (base and body) - there are also quite
a few impurities visible ( minute black specks)
Its top is also slightly oval in shape and it has quite thick walls—not sure how relevant this is!
If it is a Nazeing piece, and that’s a big if, I suppose it could possibly be an early one!

This too is thought to be Nazeing (thanks to Nigel for steering me in the right direction  ) . The similarities are quite remarkable  with the tiny bubbles and the look of the base .
It's 6 inches  tall which matches the height of one of the four cylinder vase sizes mentioned here in the black and white photo .

Hi,
The similarities are certainly there, although their patterns and sizes are different.
Of course the other names that crossed my mind when I was researching were Clutha, Monart and
Whitefriars, but no, I reckon mine like yours, is also a Nazeing—at least I hope it is 
I have to say it’s one of my favourite pieces..........

Yes yours looks like the example from Scottish Antiques with a very similar  style of decoration . I thought  mine was early Isle of Wight  .......but I was  entirely mistaken !!
I think ours are both Nazeing given the evidence  ! Here's  a better pic of the base on mine .....
