Pink mottled bowl-Nazeing or other ?
« on: December 06, 2018, 06:47:35 AM »

Hi,
I was wondering whether this could be a Nazeing one - lots of small bubbles some of which can be
felt.

Has a concave polished pontil mark.
It’s cased.
Quite a bit of base wear - which could suggest some age.
Its inside base is slightly humped.

Diam—25cm (nearly 10” )
Ht —7cm ( 2.75” )

Any thoughts very welcome - many thanks for looking  :)

I would agree with you and would be confident in Nazeing as an attribution i have owned the same shape bowl in the past mine was slightly finer than your's and had a sharp pontil scar but i'm sure that there is quite a lot of variation in the construction with Nazeing art glass...you see pieces quite often with polished/sharp pontil scar's. (Not sure why the price is so low on such pieces)

Hi,
Yes, it does seem to have all the features of a Nazeing piece—pleased to hear from someone who
thinks the same.
No idea why they should be so undervalued, probably because there’s a lot of competition out there -
I’m thinking of Monart, Vasart etc.
Many thanks

Hi,
I think I’ve found a green version with essentially the same shape and dimensions as mine
(Shape 86/1)

https://www.20thcenturyglass.com/glass_encyclopedia/british_glass/nazeing_glass/nazeingglass_home.htm

Now it’s just a question of where to display it - as I also collect studio pottery, can be a bit of a
problem sometimes  :o :)
