Victorian (?) Crimped Glass Vase
« on: January 14, 2019, 05:00:34 PM »
Would love it if someone could confirm my suspicion that the pair of vases I bought the other day are indeed Victorian and if possible, offer a date range and manufacturer. These vases measure 6" (15 1/4 cm) tall, are pink cased in white and hand blown with very thin glass everywhere except the base. Thanks for any help that can be offered!

Thanks for the reply! What about it characterizes it as Bohemian? Trying to learn as much as I can. It's a long steep curve in the glass world :) Also do you have any recommendations for good Victorian glass literature?

Sorry I didn't get back to you, the shape is quite common across the glass world, Bohemia, America & the UK it's just the finish and pontil mark that rules out the UK for me, most UK pieces have a polished pontil mark, remember this is not a set in stone and I may be barking up the wrong tree, when I started collecting I thought all this type of glassware came from the Stourbridge region. As for books there are a few, 'Victorian Decorative Glass' by Gulliver and Charles Hajdamach's  'British Glass 1800-1914 are probably the best. here's one of my unknowns...

No apology necessary. Sorry for being so slow to check in and thank you for your reply. I really like your unidentified piece with its amber crest. It's hard to tell from the photo... is it applied or part of the whole? And I just looked up those books. "Victorian Decorative Glass" definitely isn't going for cheap! I'll be keeping my eyes open though. Maybe I can stumble across a copy for auction.
