Any idea what this paperweight is?
« on: May 17, 2019, 09:29:16 PM »
Could anyone help to identify this paperweight? Som3 of the canes look a bit like antique Baccarat, but I’m no5 sure about others. Any suggestions would be much appreciated.

Many thanks

Welcome to the message board.

Maybe Baccarat but you need someone with more experience with weights for a positive id on this one.

Thank you very much. I was curious as the weight started off on eBay at £7.50 but the bidding went up to £80-ish. As a new collector I couldn’t work out why, as it didn’t look like any paperweight I had seen so far.

Yes, Baccarat. Made in the 1920s/30s and known generically as "Dupont" weights.

A general internet search will find many references to "Dupont" weights and images will show good references to millefioi canes.

See Allan Port's information on "Dupont" weights at the top of the page within his sales site.

Thank you very much indeed for the identification and the references. I shall read them with interest and hopefully remember all the information!

ummm. Reading this through, I am wondering who owns the photograph?
Clematis  (Hi and welcome!  :) ) says they were watching it and the bidding went high - but not that they won the auction, own the weight and have taken the photo of it.
If this is just about curiosity about a weight in somebody else's auction, a link to the actual auction would be permitted, but not a photograph taken from it, out of context, I'm afraid.
The board could get into legal difficulties with copyright. :)

Ooops, apologies, I assume I have overlooked some rules on posting somewhere. I don’t own the paperweight or the photo,  but was having a discussion with it’s owner about its identity. I’ll try to delete the photo if I can.

We'll need one of our lovely moderators to do that. A link to the original auction containing images is fine, or if you have permission from the owner of the photograph to use it, that's fine and I don't think anything needs done.
I'll contact Kev and point this out.
Don't worry about it at all. It will get sorted. 8)

Could you let us know if the real owner of the photo gives you permission to post it?

Cheers, Sue M. (she/her)
