You just have to be careful to "enjoy them responsibly".  ::) ::) ::)
Yet another oxymoron. ;D

Well, given what my diabetes medicine does to me, it might not be a bad thing. I must confess I am not aware (being a colonial) of what parma violets are.

They taste and smell disgusting and were a proper violet colour in the olden days

That leaves you with a moderation problem, Anne. Where are you going to put this wibble, now it is all contaminated?  ;D
Carolyn, the sugar-free sweeties are made by a brand called Sula. They are quite nice - like a "boiling" - a hard thing for sucking on. But they are small.  And they do have a laxative side effect if you eat 8.
I can't stop eating sweeties once I start. Not until the packet is finished. :-[

Licorice allsorts consumed in quantity have the same effect Sue, as my son's father found out the hard way! :D (I did tell him before he ate a whole 500g packet of them in one sitting.)

I've had to give up liquorice. It affects my guts and waterworks very badly.
I only discovered that when trying to drink fruit teas - they contain liquorice extracts and have no warnings about it. When I contacted the manufacturer to complain about the lack of warning, they said they couldn't do it, because that would mean they were making medical claims for the tea.
As a food substance, they did not legally need to provide any warnings about the contents! :o :o :o

But your son's father would have found out, the soft way.   :P  ::)  :-[  ;)

I've found dried apricots make wonderful "sweeties", but they have similar side effects when you eat a whole packet.

See my problem is not sweeties at all. I'm more of the crisps persuasion, myself. Ever so hard to stop at just a few!

Have you ever tried apple crisps? Sweet ones. They are rather good.
You can combine crisps and sugar and do double the damage.  :D
Or stay off the sweet ones, and get to feel smug and self-righteous about it, because you could be doing worse?  ;D
