ID on Green Glass lidded Trinket Box - ID = Hoffman
thomasandkatherine:
I would be grateful for any information you may have on this green glass lidded trinket box I have recently acquired. The glass is reasonably thick and is an emerald green colour. The dimensions are around 9cm long by 6cm wide by 6cm deep. The base is densely scored with deep lines of wear indicating great age. There are also one or two small rust marks in the interior. The top of the lid has bevelled edges. There is a deep intaglio pattern on the lid which I have shown in one of the photos. The pattern has a satin finish. There is also what appears to be a maker's mark of a maple leaf shape to the bottom right hand corner of the lid as you view the picture. Please let me know if I can assist with any further pictures.

Hi Alison, I think your pot is Hoffman - the little butterfly mark on the bottom right has been discussed in a previous thread on the board which contains links to items very similar to yours. See the thread Butterfly Mark here: http://www.glassmessages.com/index.php/topic,5571.msg46813.html#msg46813
Pamela may be able to help more with this item as it is her website which has more examples of this style of glass: http://www.pressglas-pavillon.de

See here http://www.pressglas-pavillon.de/aschenbecher/ascher.html. Fourth row down, there is a round one with a variant of the design

Hi, yes, I had a look at the links and found the self same pattern....although my piece forms the lid of a box.
I also see that Hoffan was responsible for a cockatoo pattern. I previously owned a box with that pattern on the lid - it was in luminous vaseline/citrine glass and was, perhaps, the most beautiful piece I have had the priviledge to own.
Lustrousstone:
Your box is probably a cigarette box rather than a trinket box, especially if the lid is like a little tray. i would also gues that it's in green uranium glass and will glow very bright green under a UV light
