Small Green / Blue Surface Decorated Vase ID
« on: September 18, 2019, 09:27:38 AM »
Hi,

I picked this vase up yesterday with some other mid 20th century glass but I can't identify it, anyone recognise it? It has white powder surface decor with blue and grey lines on top, it also has a broken pontil mark on base. It's 4.5 inches high.

Any input welcome!

Thank You,

Adam

Is the pontil mark broken, or does it have a blob of glass stuck on it with an indent in the middle of that?
From the pic there, it almost looks like an IoWSG coachbolt mark. But the vase itself looks similar to ranges much, much later than coachbolt marks.
So I can't suggest IoWSG, really, but I do wonder a little bit about their "Glassmaker's Shelf" stuff.
Things made by the makers for themselves, encouraging them to learn and use their own takes on designs, and the work sold in the shop, from this special "Glassmaker's Shelf".
I might be barking up a tulip rather than just the wrong tree.  ::)

Hi,

Thanks for the reply! Yeah it's broken for sure but I see what you mean about it looking like the coach bolt mark. I think you're on the right track as google has provided a few different examples that are very similar in decor and shape.

Thanks!

I've seen similar decor on Caithness, but that would have a completely different base and would not be even remotely "wonky".
It's not an appearance exclusive to IoWSG.

Ok thanks I'll try that too but it doesn't seem to be IoW, I searched through all their designs on a IoW collectors website and couldn't find it although there was one or two which were similar - seascape I think was one.
