Saint Louis pink clematis?
« on: January 28, 2020, 05:50:03 PM »
Hi,

Could anyone help me with this weight id.
I think the design is an antique Saint Louis pink clematis, it has a polished concave base with a external worn ring. D 6,5 cm. H 4,7 cm
Many thanks.

Marc.

Hi Marc,  :) As you know, I know nothing about weights... but could you post a pic of the side profile, please?
I have a funny feeling the shape of the dome and the hight in relation to the width might be relevant for ids of these rather top-end old ones.

That is exactly the profile I wanted, thanks. It doesn't help me,  :-[ but it should help those who do know.
I can now see that the flower kind of floats a bit above the lattice, where the latttice is, where the flower is and the whole shape of the dome.  ;D I do think that can be important.

(I suspect I can see some age-related scratches around too... :'( But rather expected on very old.)
Cheers, Sue M. (she/her)

Central cane - 14 ribs - a good pointer for Saint Louis.  :)

The convention (at least, among collectors) is:
- two layers of petals = clematis
- three or more layers of petals = dahlia
