Help with a "W" mark
« on: February 04, 2020, 04:05:08 PM »
Hi. I am trying to figure out what the w with a strange mark then the date mean.. Any idea who made this?  I have seen this mark on paperweights as well.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. We are a small non profit animal organization trying to sell her stuff to help feed the many homeless animals. Thanks so much,, Gina

Hi felinerescue1,

Is the item in the photo a vase or paperweight or something else? It would be useful to see photos that show details of the whole item - even if the signature cannot be identified. the item may be recognisable to somebody.

When you say you have seen paperweights with the same "W" etc, are you referring to actual items that are also part of your sales proposals? If so, a couple of photos showing one or more of the paperweights would also be useful.

Help with a mark on a small vase
« Reply #2 on: February 07, 2020, 03:40:50 PM »
Hi. I have a pretty small vase that has a makers mark on the bottom of what looks like a w then a strange mark and the date.  I am not sure who makes this?  Does anyone have any ideas?  Thanks so much

Hi again! Please could you reply to your own posts rather than creating frequent new threads?
It helps to keep all comments on one thing together in one place.  :)
We are all just amateur enthusiasts here, and we like to help identify and find out about glass - we don't give up on finding and identification - but sometimes, it can take years.
Not everybody comes in every day, you will have to have a little patience until the right person, with the right knowledge comes along.
I am fairly sure this could be an American Studio Glass piece, but my knowledge of American Studio is very limited - it's a huge area!

Hello & Welcome, Gina.

That's a pretty piece.  Is it possible to have another picture from a different angle to get some idea of the form.  Also, some measurements.  Did you enhance the signature with some talc, or is it actually as distinctive on the piece, as is it is in the picture?

I see Kev has already asked for pictures of any paperweights with the same mark, so hopefully we will be able to see those as well.

Thanks
Cat

Yes, that's exactly right Gina.

Could you please add measurements, and also confirm whether the signature has been "enhanced" in your picture.

It's an intriguing piece - really look forward to seeing the paperweights.
