Topic: unkown lozenge marked ice pail, possibly.

there is a lozenge in the bottom of this one, but apart from the CLASS III indication, the rest is completely illegible, so no idea as to date or maker, and can't see a trade mark anywhere.

Does anyone recognize the design/shape please.           Height is about 3.75 inches (c. 95 mm).                Of course, it might not be an ice pail  -  possibly a sugar.

I've re-typed this post several times, and tried to include one additional picture at max. 700  ……………   unfortunately each time my new post is rejected.                 I have a possible answer to this question, but looks like you'll never know since my words/picture are rejected each time. shame  -  let's see what others might suggest.

Thank you for showing this, Paul.

I thought at first sight that it was ice pail, Sowerby 291874, registered on 5 June 1875 - Parcel 5; shown on page 33 of pattern book XI (1885) as Sowerby pattern 1109; but the bottom half of that is clear fluted (see photos).

I'll check on the pattern books and my reference photos to see if I can ID it positively.

thanks to all for the help                   First off I was also going down Fred's route and thought possibly a design variant on 291874 - not an unknown trick of Sowerby to repeat a decorative feature, but now I see where I was failing  -  I'm lacking the lid                I must go back to the charity outlet and complain   -  only joking.

Attached is the - very poor  -  original factory drawing from Sowerby - lacks the surface decoration, so appears to be protection for the shape only.

This post seems to have been pre-empted by that from Paul, but here is my reply anyway:

Photo herewith of Sowerby honey or marmalade pattern 1381, shown on page 35 of pattern book XI (1885), for permanent reference.

I also attach a copy of Paul's photo of the design representation for RD 319586 of 20 March 1878 - Parcel 7. This has never been posted on the GMB Sowerby Pattern database because the design is for the shape only, but was sufficiently unclear whether it but it may have been the design covering Sowerby pattern 1342 sugar and/or Sowerby 1381 honey or marmalade.
