If we had the sort of software in a system to do that, would it still be compatible with those of us who still use old systems?
I'd like that, because I can't work any of these new resizing programmes on this stupid new-ish pc which refuses to operate the old potato shop.
But I suspect a very good reason we don't have it, is the cost. :)
Cheers, Sue M. (she/her)

Unfortunately the board only accepts 500kb at a time. It's rather time-consuming compressing images when one can upload them easily elsewhere. I would be happy to add more otherwise.

Can you add some code that would auto-compress images when they were uploaded here? That could solve the problem.

The board accepts up to 4 images per post, at a maximum of 125kb per image. It's perfectly simple to resize images to fit the limits - if you use Irfanview you can batch resize in seconds.  We cannot add code to the webspace to do the job for you as it uses far too much in the way of resources and would crash the board. This is a free to use board and as such has to run within the limitations of the hosting we have.

Have you considered this mod from this very forum’s parent library?
https://custom.simplemachines.org/mods/index.php?mod=2206

Edit: chatting to someone who runs an AWS migration service and he claims placing the resizing code on the server would cause minimal load if there are only tens of photos being uploaded each day. If there are tens of thousands, it could get more expensive. What runtimes are on the server? Java?

The answer is no we will not implement this. We are volunteers, this is a free service, it runs well for the rest of us who use it. This discussion is off topic for the glass forum. If you want help with your glass that's fine, but please don't try and tell us how to run the board.

Please accept my deepest apologies. I did not mean to offend or upset. I was genuinely trying to offer help so that people might be more willing to add to your library and extend knowledge. Very sorry. Won’t mention it again.

I could tell you were getting enthusiastic, it is your area, after all. Don't worry.  :)
It's Anne's area too and she has kept us happy for much longer than we'd like to admit!
