Green & blue perfume bottle. ID = Graham Muir Studio Glass
« on: April 04, 2020, 08:17:12 PM »
Hi
I purchased this perfume (?) bottle a couple of years ago, and every so often I get it out to try and identify the signature, but without success.
It stands 140mm to the top of the (ill fitting) stopper and is 65mm wide at the base, which is concave.
I would be really grateful for any help in identifying the maker.
Many thanks

Hi and  a belated welcome to the board  :)

Your bottle is really striking - gorgeous colours and I love the indented base.

I can't think of who that signature might be but I feel I've seen it before somewhere on the board,  so I'm hoping someone will be along at some point who may recognise it.

He is quite well-known and highly thought of.
For a while, you could buy his perfume bottles in the Museum shop attached to the Modern Art Gallery in Edinburgh, and in the Chamber Street Museum shop too.
He exhibited in the '05 Scottish Glass Society Exhibition in Crieff, and a fabulous dolphin bowl was bought by the MacManus Gallery in Dundee. I bought his Wave Form - possibly one of his first.
I've found an image of the Seal vase the McManus Gallery has. (purchased earlier than the dolphin one, no pics of that on the web. I have a couple in my pc, but can't resize.)

Thanks for fixing those Keith!
The bowl is rather thick, the dolphins and turtle are graal and bubbles are cut on the surface.
I took the photos at the Exhibition in 2005, which is why they're not really very good and have busy backgrounds - I was not rearranging the glass. ;D
I can still see the dolphin bowl and the seal vase if I go to the Museum.

Here are a couple of pics of the Wave Form I have. He has since developed those into really tall things that look as if they are going to overbalance, and has omitted the graal figures inside.
I have been told he has an unfortunately high failure rate while making these - they are incredibly difficult to get to work and balance.
Cheers, Sue M. (she/her)
