Hello,
It's been a while since I last posted, but I'm back - this time with an identification request for a vase that has me stumped. (Thanks again getting my account back up and running Anne!)
Unusually for a cameo vase, I'm wondering whether it could be Murano in origin? Does anyone know of a cameo glass maker in Murano; I don't...
The reason I'm thinking Murano is that one of the layers appears to be neodymium/alexandrite glass; and it has a highly polished flat (or possibly ever so slightly concave) bottom.
The body of glass is significantly thicker than any other cameo vases I own (Gallé, Legras, Daum, Webb). The selective polishing is very unusual and I think may be diagnostic. The design has definitely been cut into the glass, and to quite a depth too. From the finish I'm think it might be etched by sand-blasting?
It has some natural wear, and if I were to hazard a guess I'd say it may be 1930-1960? 1980's at the latest. I don't think it's more recent than that.
It's a relatively large cameo vase, 20cm tall, by 19cm wide (max).
Photos attached.
Any ideas who made it, where, and when?
Stay well,
Best regards,
Adrian
