Mistaken ID?
« on: May 17, 2020, 11:08:56 PM »
Hi all,

This paperweight on Ebay (item n. 143598717030) is being sold as Paul Ysart's. IMHO these are NOT PY canes. I was going to warn the seller but I wanted to check here before doing so.

What does everybody think?

Not PY.

Canes are too "basic" for Paul's use without any of his own better-made canes also being included.

Geometric design not neat enough for Paul's work.

Ground is a good try at "jasper" finish but not to Paul's standard.

Base finish is not as per Paul's work. Snapped off pontil scar; wide outer ring of untidy rough grinding; cutting-in lines around central area are too "blocky" and slope too much.

More likley Salvador's work at the Ysart Bros Works (early Vasart).

Hi Kevin,

I hope you are keeping well.

Many thanks for confirming what I thought. I completely agree with everything you said. I will tell the seller.

It is an interesting weight though.
