New Piece - Who by?
« on: June 17, 2020, 03:04:31 AM »
Hi all, picked up this piece this week and delighted with it. The seller claimed it was Archimede Seguso but I have looked and can see nothing like this anywhere.
All ideas are very welcome.
It is ribbed on the outside and twisted on the inside which I have not seen before. Not an easy piece to make I am guessing and it's full of gold?
Very lucky to have it even if it's not by A.S. ;D ;D ;D
8.5" 22cm High and weighs 780 grams
Clean and Crisp a Murano twist.
Archimede tops my list.

Very interesting John and although slightly different there is more in common with those than most things I have seen with A.S. stickers.
There is one on 1st dibs. Looks different to me. https://www.1stdibs.com/furniture/decorative-objects/vases-vessels/vases/large-archimede-seguso-ribbed-murano-art-glass-vase-gold-foil/id-f_17537801/

HI All, I'm a bit excited but that is normal before the reality strikes!
Think I have found it after much searching. I had a look at Leslie Pina's Archimede Seguso which I have had for ages and thought I knew it so didn't look there. Page 42 has a description of ribs cross hatching and can be felt on outside as well as inside.
Also found this on google: https://www.google.com/search?source=univ&tbm=isch&q=archimede+seguso+griglia&client=firefox-b-d&sa=X&ved=2ahUKEwii5pzN35TqAhXXxjgGHX4jDt0QsAR6BAgKEAE&biw=1679&bih=948#imgrc=VLo7SW1kXN1fSM
Look on the left and 5th one down to see similar.
Hope this is enough to convirm it as Archimede Seguso - Griglia...

Well spotted and in that photo it is really not all that obvious.

On page 51 there is a vase with the same sort of shape as yours, square footprint and proportionately quite tall.

Hi John, thanks as I hadn't noticed that one on page 51. It was the description that sent me off in the griglia direction, didn't think it looked a lot like mine.
I went through all my Murano books and went to Pina's as the last option, I was pretty sure I knew what was in there.
Just goes to prove that 'assumptions are the standpoints of fools!'

Well this piece of AS is wonderful. I have seen it in all lights and it is remarkable how it changes.
A fabulous piece of glass and amazed that I stumbled on it. Never thought Griglia would do it for me.

Thanks John it has gone into my must keep section. I am now the proud owner of 57 pieces of A.S. and other pieces by Svda, Venini bowl and wonderful Barovier and Toso lamp.
It's been a lot of fun and the occasional disappointment.
