Topic: Is this a paperweight? ID please.

I bought this piece of flat thick glass, not sure if I should call it a paperweight, maybe something else. The size is about 4" cross the longer side, 3" cross the shorter side. It is basically flat.

  It looks as if it would function very well at holding paper down. I think it would be perfectly safe to call it a paperweight. Possibly a pebble paperweight, given the shape.
It has a slightly Maltese feel about it, but I would not like to say that is what it is. It would be recent and not my area.
I cannot make out the bit in the middle of the bottom - is it a pontil scar? That would preclude Maltese.

Many thanks for your message. Yes, the pontil scar is in the back, and it is not smoothed (polished maybe I should say). Is it Italian? It weights 484g.

Italian glass is not my area, but I would doubt it. 
It's got a couple of air bubbles in it, it's not any sort of "perfectly formed" paperweight, it's just a small, bread-and-butter gift shop thing.
The white blobby bits look Maltese, the form is consistent but the pontil scar is not. I'm not so sure about the swathe of deep blue, or the shade of blue used.
It could be from any number of small studios.
I do think it is Studio glass.

Hi Sue, the sizes are about 12cm by 9cm and 2.5cm thickness. The air bubbles are tiny in the clear glass. I am thinking about Murano glass, but I may be wrong.

Studio glass or something made during a glass lesson are much more likely. It's not Murano
