Huge 10" Murano vase? ID pls.
« on: September 17, 2020, 11:47:30 AM »
Hello All, this is a huge vase in unique shape (10" tall, 2.5KG), flat and polished base. I feel it was from Murano, but I might be wrong. Any ideas? If it is from Murano, please identify potential maker. Thanks.

:) It looks very Czech/Bohemian. I would start with Skrdlovice.
Sorry, but I can't quite make out what the exact surface texture is, to start looking my books.
Cheers, Sue M. (she/her)

Thanks Sue! The surface is kind of smooth, not the knobbly feel. Maybe you are right. It is so heavy and the colours are green and transit to amber with a continuous shade. It is a very strange shape as well. I guess you may be correct. There is no mark/sign at all.

The colours are quite typically Bohemian. The design would be specified by the kind of surface texture - which looks a bit loopy. :)
I've had a look in my book (Beranek and Skrdlovice; Legends of Czech Glass by Robert Bevan Jones and Jindrich Parik - both members here but don't post terribly often.)
I think Jan Beranek might be a good name to start off with.
There are other folk here who know a lot more about this kind of glass than I do. :)
I'm sure somebody will be able to help.
Cheers, Sue M. (she/her)
