Stourbridge? Yellow Vase.
« on: February 21, 2021, 01:55:52 PM »
I was hoping this was uranium glass, sadly not, but I think it's an unusual colour. It has a rough snapped pontil and wear on the bottom  in the form of a ring of dots on the contact points of the ribs. I believe it was made in Stourbridge but by one of the lesser known makers such as Smart Brothers . P.311 in Hajdamach 1800-1914 shows some not dissimilar pieces with the same type of rigaree in cranberry glass. I can't find much about Smart Brothers online.

Nev, the British Glass Foundation have acquired some paperwork relating to Smart Brothers.  It might be worth an email to them asking if any of it includes catalogues? http://www.blackcountryradio.co.uk/news/local-headlines/25k-grant-enables-glass-pattern-book-conservation/

Thanks Anne, I'll look into it. Hajdamach also shows some lampshades by Smart Bros. with a colour called "citron" which might be a possibility.
