Opalescent Uranium Glass Goblet? ID Request. ID = Fenne
« on: March 22, 2021, 02:25:32 PM »
Hello, this piece glows under black light and is slightly translucent. I wondered if it's meant to be a goblet? Any info on era or possible maker would be much appreciated :)

With the decoration around the rim I don't think it's a goblet, more a dessert dish of some sort. My guess would be French around 1900-1920, perhaps Portieux/Vallerysthal, Meisenthal etc. Do your photos show the true colour? I've found Opaline glass tends to appear a different colour when photographed.

Thanks for your reply NevB, a dessert dish would make more sense. I just had a quick search of your suggestions and found an advert for a piece I have which is apparently by John Walsh, I always seem to find what things are when looking for something else  :)

Just double checked and I think the colour is true to life.

Looking for something else  :)  I found this page in the Fenne 1906 catalogue.

Bottom left is the Dora 1157 sugar coupe which I'm sure is the same as yours. Also Fenne made the same green colour.

Oh brilliant find! Yes that's it - thank you  :)

Looking for something else seems to be my main source of successful research!

Mine too, I always get side-tracked by something else.
